Comic Books Taught Me Better Than College

I’m new at reading comic books and I think is the most exciting thing I’ve ever done in my life. The illustration of every single comic book is absolute art. Illustration nowadays is underrated. The people I surround myself with are great at drawing and have they’re favorite people in the subject like Keith Haring. I used to see Haring and Giacomo Bagnara as my main inspirations when I draw, but now, the people who illustrate comic books are my top heroes. The way they get into the details and the ability they have to draw like that to make a powerful superhero story come to life is INCREDIBLE. Those people are the ones that need to show us at design school as a reference and make them our inspiration to drawing. What they do is truly art. And, did you know that people who are only dedicated to paint those unbelievable comic books’ illustrations exist? I didn’t! Color is everything and after reading comic books I get the importance of it. Design school only taught me the rules of color but not how to make them come to life, comic books taught me how to do that and that not only because you illustrate means you are an expert at color.

I was said numerable times at college that printing is over and digital is the new thing. Comic books say the opposite. Reading Watchmen would be totally different to read online than to have those awesome drawings in your hands and be able to see every little detail and understand that details matter. The covers are so well thought out. The composition between illustration and typography is so perfectly balanced and creates the perfect cover. Comic books makes you see and learn that illustration is everything and are a perfect way to communicate. Comic books are not appreciated how there supposed to be. THEY’RE ART PEOPLE. I want to be like all those comic book illustrators and be able to read loads of them so I can know the work every single one of them, I’m so moved and inspired by them, they’re teaching me way more than college, that’s for sure. So, if you went to art or design school, don’t doubt it, buy a comic book.
